1966

Year of the Mustang
Clancy used his to remodel
                           Minit-Mart
Owsley was still an under-grad
and had not yet gotten his stamp
I lost my shadow in PB (and never quite
             found it again)
Vietnam was a far off place
And it was more fun to say f**k anyhow
We believed in Love and Peace
      (I hadn't learned to Make
                                 Bombs
                                   Yet)
Feeling good we did it
Licking puppies and other things
Laughing we picked flowers
              (for graves still undug)
We wandered through Norwegian Wood
                    while Times Were A Changin'
Ginsberg spoke of Mantras
and love (while America
                       found its K)
I coyote-howled with Jim, and we
sampled strychnine-cut crystal
I speeded down roller-coaster roads
If it feels good, do it
So I f**ked a stranger and
                    it felt good
I wore a wilted yellow ribbon
in my long, dark hair.
